                               Bethania Holy Week Readings

These readings represent an account of the sufferings, death, resurrection and ascension of the Lord Jesus Christ as it is found in the New Testament.  It's roots go back nearly 250 years to the Moravian Church In Germany, where the first copy of the "The Story of the Days of the Son of Man", compiled from the four gospels (translated title) was printed for individual devotional use.
In 1771 the manuscript was first translated into English, using the King James version of the Bible. Diaries of early American Moravian settlements indicate these readings, known then as the "Passion Week Manual", were used congregationally.  Ministers read daily to their congregations portions of the account which was divided to reflect Christ's activities during each day of Holy Week.
